Secretary of State (SOS) Search

The Secretary of State (SOS) Search allows you to verify a business’s legal existence, registration details, and entity status as part of the underwriting process for applicants. SOS search helps confirm that a business is properly registered with the state and that its legal details align with the application.

How to Perform an SOS search

  1. Open an Application.

  2. Navigate to the SOS tab.

  3. Click View More option to open the SOS Search panel

  4. In the SOS search panel, enter the business name, select the state and click Search. Once submitted, results may take a few minutes to return. All matching businesses are displayed.

The Best Match appears at the top. This represents the closest match based on the entered business name and the selected state.

  5. If the best match is not the correct business:
    - Review the Alternative matches listed below.
    - Click Research to run a new search or review an alternative record

  6. To save the record, click on View More option for the selected business.

Once saved, you can see SOS filings status in the summary section changed from Unverified to Active.
